We hosted a fantastic social event in Swansea where we celebrated the hard work and dedication of our Champions and brought grassroot organisations from minority ethnic communities together to mark South Asian Heritage Month.

Our Champions Celebration & Thank You Curry social event was held in India India Buffet restaurant in Swansea on Tuesday 26 July. It was an opportunity to reconnect with our Champions and thank them for their hard work in tacking mental health stigma and discrimination in Wales.

We also welcomed representatives of grassroot organisations, including South Asian organisations, who are keen to work closely with us on challenging mental health stigma in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in Wales.

This was a great way to mark South Asian Heritage Month as we want to engage with diverse communities where mental health problems are rarely recognised or spoken about.

During the event, we heard from Champions Rahila and Jess who were our guest speakers. It was important to hear stories from Champions with lived experience of mental health problems as without them, the campaign would not be able to reach those that need us the most.

Lowri Wyn Jones, Programme Manager for Time to Change Wales said: “It was a wonderful event to recognise the great work of our Champions and network with organisations who are passionate about practicing good mental wellbeing and tackling mental health stigma in their communities.

Thank you so much to Rahila and Jess for speaking so openly about their experiences and encouraging a safe space to talk about mental health.

We understand that different communities talk about mental health in different ways, so we want to encourage more open and supportive conversations around mental health without stigma or discrimination.”

Below is a list of organisations that have attended the event and their website and social media handles. Please do keep up to date with their work in supporting their own communities.
