Thank you this Volunteers' Week 2021

Today marks the start of Volunteers’ Week and this week we want to say a huge thank you to our Champions and supporters who are at the heart of the TtCW campaign to end mental health stigma.

Our Champions are at the very heart of the Time to Change Wales Campaign. Indeed, we simply couldn't do what we do, without these courageous volunteers speaking out within in their own communities, campaigning in the media and sharing their life's experiences of facing stigma and discrimination when living with mental health issues.

We are so thankful that we have been funded for another year and look forward to working together in the continuation of our core activity with a highlighted focus on better reaching socio-economically deprived communities and identifying the needs of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in Wales.

We want to continue to train, encourage and empower Champions to amplify their voices by providing them with a variety of platforms to speak up for those communities who are often overlooked, underrepresented or misunderstood in accessing health services in their challenges of living with mental ill health.

Whilst we still cannot meet face-to-face, we have refined our training so that we can begin to deliver it virtually, via Zoom. This interactive training takes place over two consecutive days in two, 2 and a half hour sessions. Champions will be offered a further day's training, once we are able to meet face-to-face.

So, please join us as a TtCW Champion in this quest to tackle stigma so that we can become a more compassionate, more tolerant society.

“Mental health does not discriminate, so why should we?”

"There is stigma by the older generation and an attitude to just ‘get on with it’ – which may have delayed the time for me to seek help."

“I want to be a catalyst for change wherever I can”

“Being vulnerable and looking to learn something new to help your physical and mental wellbeing is a major strength. It’s difficult, which is why it can be scary. It’s so worth it, though!”
