Rebecca & Stuart - Mental health in relationships

Rebecca & Stuart's story - Mental health in relationships

14th November 2017, 2.23pm

“I felt very isolated before I spoke to someone about my mental health. I had all these problems racing around my head and I felt like I was the only one who could deal with them. The hardest part about it is taking that first step, so be brave and speak to someone. It could be anyone.

"I’ve looked back at my own experiences and realised there were moments in conversations where I really wanted to open up but my fear kept me silent. I feel like they were missed opportunities to connect with someone. Your small act of making someone a cup of tea or texting a person to ask how they are could have a significant impact on someone’s day.”

“Mental health does not discriminate, so why should we?”

"There is stigma by the older generation and an attitude to just ‘get on with it’ – which may have delayed the time for me to seek help."

“I want to be a catalyst for change wherever I can”

“Being vulnerable and looking to learn something new to help your physical and mental wellbeing is a major strength. It’s difficult, which is why it can be scary. It’s so worth it, though!”
