What it's like living with my Borderline Personality Disorder

Natasha describes the two sides to her Borderline Personality Disorder.

6th April 2017, 10.52am | Natasha Davies-Hopton

My name is Natasha and I've suffered with anxiety disorders and depression since my early teens but a few years ago was told I had borderline personality disorder.

For me, on a good cycle, life with borderline personality disorder is white. It's (safe) risk taking and it’s being an extroverted, manic, positive, social person.

On a bad cycle, life is black. I'm introverted and depressed, anxious, unsociable hideaway person who pushes people away when I'm lonely.

There is no grey. 50 shades? I just want one.

It’s not all doom and gloom; I can often empathise with people. My advice is mostly impartial and I know who my true friends are. They are the ones who are still my friends after seeing and helping me through all my times, both good and white or bad and black. For that I thank you for being in my corner.

Keep on going all you mental health warriors.

Love

Natasha

“Mental health does not discriminate, so why should we?”

"There is stigma by the older generation and an attitude to just ‘get on with it’ – which may have delayed the time for me to seek help."

“I want to be a catalyst for change wherever I can”

“Being vulnerable and looking to learn something new to help your physical and mental wellbeing is a major strength. It’s difficult, which is why it can be scary. It’s so worth it, though!”
